Farewell to My Kent County Deer Lease

Great Plains Skink, originally uploaded by Snakelover61.

Last weekend, Mindy and I visited my deer lease in Kent County for the last time. None of the seven hunters from last year will be returning. At one time, I had thought I would manage the lease and get six new hunters to join me. But after trying for more than a month, I have not been able to fill the lease. So Mindy and I made the trip to get my travel trailer, deer feeders and fencing materials. By the way, Mindy was a tremendous help and made the weekend so much fun!

While we were there, we found this cool Great Plains Skink! At around 9" long, this is by far the biggest skink I've ever caught.

I'm kind of sad to be getting off this lease, but there is a silver lining. Mindy and I will be able to use my travel trailer when she shows at the Zapp Hall Antique Show in Warrenton in the fall!

Consider it just a different kind of hunting lease! Debbie

Cool picture! FringeMan has spoken of these skinks, but I've never seen one.

Good memories were made at the Kent County lease. I'm sure another lease is around the corner, when you are ready. The skink was an educational experience, for sure. Great picture! ~Mindy

You and Mindy are so adorable! And your blog is great. What fun Brett and I would have with you two! Too bad we're only in Texas long enough to catch our plane to Florida this June. However, you and Mindy could always join us for cocktails down in the KEYS! Happy birthday week!

Erika

ps: My son Jake will love the Skink pic.

Have a happy birthday week David. Oh BTW, there was a skink in our antique mall that was always darting out in front of folks. He spooked me and I was able to sweep him outside, but the poor thing lost it's tail in the process. Fortunately I know a little something about lizards and this did not freak me out. I sat there and watched that tail for about 5 mins, amazing.

Happy Birthday!! Too bad about the deer lease. I'll bet you had some great times hunting there. But like Trash Talk said, now you'll be hunting something different! I showed my boy the picture of the skink, and my wife was right - he thought it totally was very cool! Hope your Birthday Day week is great! Take care.

I heard a commotion outside my bathroom window a couple of years ago and peeked outside. A large black skanky skink was eating wasps off a large nest. It hypnotized me and I watched until the dern thing worked its way through a twenty course dinner!

Happy birthday!

I have several small grey skinks in my back yard. They are very shy and run very fast. Happy Birthday Week. You wouldn't like Mindy's mom to go along on the Arkansas trip would you? Mountain View is my favorite place to visit. If you were going there, I would definitly be in the back seat.

Happy birthday David. I celebrated one this week too--my preschoolers guessed I turned 90, but one guessed 17.

Deer leases are a Texas thing--Beth Moore always talks about her hubby's deer lease. Here in MT, we just hit some plubic land and shoot.

Happy birthday week is right! How lucky are you to have a girlfriend who dotes on you like she does?! Eat lots of cake for me! :)

Hope you have a very happy birthday! If I lived near y'all I'd come eat some birthday cake with y'all, but since I don't you eat a extra big piece for me, come July when it's my bday I'll eat a big piece of cake for you, see that way we have an excuse for cake without the guilt. haha !!!

Too bad about your hunting spot.

I love your photo of the skink. And the Roadkill Cookoff sounds like a blast!
