No Rest for Snakelover

This post might be better for an f-stop friday. But I expect to be away from the computer for the next couple of Fridays, so I decided to post it today.

On a website I frequent, there's a bi-weekly photography contest that I usually try to enter when I can. This time, the subject is "Reptiles" and entry ends tonight at midnight. Now, you would think this contest would be right up my alley! I mean, think about it... photography and snakes. What's not to love?

But despite almost two weeks of keeping an eye out for reptiles, up until Saturday, I didn't have anything to enter. Then I happened to look out Mindy's back door and... would you believe it?... a copperhead was laying on her back porch! What luck!

It took me a bit to catch it, being that I was armed only with a fish net. But Mindy brought me a rubbermaid tub to put it in and then I headed to the woods in search of a natural setting for what turned out to be a nice photo shoot. This is the photo I entered in the contest...

The winner will be announced tomorrow. Wish me luck! Here is the one I almost entered...

Out of lots of pictures, these were my two favorites. I thought I liked the second one better. Mindy liked the first one better. After looking at them side by side, I had to agree with her.

When not taking reptile pictures, Mindy and I were working our tails off getting ready for the Zapp show! Whew! I'm still exhausted! But I feel very good about what we got done. As this is likely my last post until we get back, wish us luck there too!

Cool pictures! I can't believe you actually caught it for a photo-shoot with a fish net. You should get credit for all the work you put into getting the photo. Best of luck on the contest. I think you should win!

I'm not so sure it's great luck that Mindy had a copperhead on her back porch but guess it was pretty good luck that you were there and could take it into the woods for a photoshoot. Personally, it gives me the willys but hope you win the contest. Great picture. Hope you two have the best of luck at the sale & come back with an empty trailor. We'll miss you. Jan

OK, the result of the "Reptile" photo contest is in. My copperhead had his butt handed to him by a GECKO! Which is sad because snakes don't really even have butts! And to add insult to injury, there were only four entries. Oh well, I'm definitely expecting MUCH better luck in Warrenton!

You love me! :-)

Thank you, honey! Casey is one of the best photographers on the site, so I'm never surprised when he wins. I did think I had a good chance this time, though. Photography is subjective and it all depends on what the particular judge likes. I'll just keep trying!

I love how you're in my corner! Always! I love you madly!

I like the first picture the best also ..... wow, what a great picture, even though it is a snake.

I have a picture in my head of you taking that snake in a tub out for a perfect photo site. I am smiling from ear to ear just thinking about it. You are one dedicated photographer which is what make you such a great one! I hope you win too!!!
