Reflections of a Snake Lover

While photographing a Red-striped Ribbon Snake in my yard, I inadvertently captured a self-portrait! Check the reflection in the eye pupil. I was laying flat on my stomach to get eye level with the snake. If you look closely, you can see me and my camera, the sky and trees behind me and even a fence row.

I thought it was kind of cool. Especially if you consider that the snake's head is only about 3/4" long and the eye is about the size of a BB! I took this picture with my 100mm macro lens.

The color in the eye is lovely. It definitely makes purchasing a macro very tempting.

Oh my goodness, just how close to this snake were you? I can tell from that reflection that it was way to close for my comfort zone! lol

What an amazing photo! Now I'm going to have to really watch those reflections, something I found myself doing today. See I am learning something! (Stay far away enough from a snake that I can't see my reflection in his eyes) hehe

Awesome photo! I really need to take some photography classes. I take it that snake is not poisonous? Or are you just very adventurous? lol Although I know from experience (owning a pet shop) that any snake can bite:)

Okay - so I've been thinking long and hard about what to say here (and on the slithery tongue post) and I've got nothing funny to say because I'm still STILL screaming while standing on my chair pointing at my monitor SCREAMING "snake! it's a snake! EUWWWWW somebody get it out of here!!!)

But I think you take some gorgeous photos!

Now - there's a snake on my desk and I'm going back up on the chair until the mouse takes it off my monitor.

I swear, you are fearless. Just don't pull any Steve Irwin's on us, okay? ;-)

David, my sister showed me some Nat'l Geo. pictures (one that I will probably use later), and when I showed her your snake pictures, she said that you might want to enter it in a contest. You probably know about the various competitions out there - perhaps you might consider it.

The snake would have had me running for the house (laugh). The photo is totally impressive. Love it!

Thanks for all the kind words about the photo!

Alice, I don't break out the macro lens very often. But when I do, it's always fun! Go for it!

Darlin, I was pretty close to the snake. It was probably about a foot from my lens.

Debra, the snake is definitely not venomous. Which is a good thing cause it tagged me a few times. Tiny little teeth, though. Barely any blood! lol I handle venomous snakes much differently, so no worries!

Robelyn, that's quite a visual! LMAO!

Thanks again, everyone!
