Up to my knees in RICET.
Those of you who read my last blog know I set a goal to run a half-marathon.
The first day of training, I ran and walked 2.2 miles. Lordy, it was harder than I thought! It was a pain in the shins, but I figured that was to be expected.
I gave it a day or two of rest and then ran and walked 3.3 miles. It was again difficult and somewhat painful, but I felt like I did pretty well that day.
I gave it a few more days rest and then ran and walked another 3 miles. I felt good after the run, other than a little pain under my right knee. Then I drove home.
When I got out of my truck... OH MY GOD! Yeah, I apparently hurt myself royally! I have had knee problems for almost thirty years and hadn't considered how the high impact nature of running would affect that old injury. Yikes! In layman's terms, my right knee is JACKED UP!
That was last Wednesday. Since that time, I have been on RICET therapy...
Perhaps you have heard of RICE therapy? The "R" stands for Rest, the "I" stands for Ice, the "C" stands for Compression and the "E" stands for Elevation.
Well RICET therapy is just a slight modification of RICE therapy. It incorporates all the elements of RICE therapy, but with one additional element. The "T" stands for TEQUILA! Preferably, mixed in a margarita! Mindy's friend, Cindy, who is a runner, came up with RICET therapy and I have adopted it for my own use.
If you read my last blog, you know that I signed up for the Hottest 10K on August 15th. Well, guess what? That's NOT going to happen! I have an appointment with an orthopedic specialist on Thursday morning to get a diagnosis beyond "it's jacked up." Hopefully, I will find out what needs to be done for my knee and whether running is even a possibility. Stay tuned.

OK, one quick clarification. I said, "Mindy's friend, Cindy." I called her that because she and Mindy have been friends for years and years. I have known her for only a short time, but consider her a friend too! Cindy has been a great friend and encourager through all this! She's great!
Poor thing! That "T" should help a lot!!
Cindy rocks and so do you! Though it seems this 50 year celebration will not include a half marathon, there are, my dear, many other ways to celebrate a half century. Now, you heal up and we'll make a list of the ways we can start the next 50 years! I am on Team David, wherever you are! ~Mindy
Now that's what I call dotting your "I"s and crossing your "T"s. I wonder if it works for paper cuts.
Seriously David...as a recipient of knee surgery, listen to what the doc says and don't push it. There is nothing as bad as knee pain,
Debbie
Bummer. Hope this will not be too serious, and that you will be fine.
Too hot to be running anyway.
Oh OH!!! I've got it! To celebrate your 50 year milestone you can make a list of 50 things to do while all jacked up on "T"! How's that?!!? heehee
I'm glad you're going to see a dr. so he/she can heal you right up. I do hope it feels better super quick! In the meantime, I know what to get you for your birthday... but it might have a worm in it... HA!

Ahhh, poor David!
As another old fart with jacked up knees, I feel your pain.
Hang tough!
Have a wonderful, albeit low imapct, week!
Anne
shoot. i am so sorry! i say go heavy on the "T"! i'll pray for the best possible doctor news! take good care!
OUCH! Careful with the "T" part of helping you with your aliment, it's a bugger of a headache added to your already pain when you have one sip too many! :-)
I saw you over at Jan's blog so I thought I come over and see what you're up to ~ I am sorry for your knee but I think that is a great therapy!
I wish you restoration!
Blessings,
Katie
Take care of that knee! Walking is better for you I think.
Thanks for the birthday wish to my sister.
Will be watching for your celebration!
Happy day to you,
KarenSue
I'm sorry about this disappointment..but hey, you have a whole year of being 50---maybe you can get it in before the year is out??
Hope your feeling better soon. (by the way, you are very lucky to have that Mindy chic!! She always seems to write the the right thing) At this point I'd be pointing and laughing at my hubby--I totally could use sensitivity lessons.
Oh my gosh, that's crazy!! Definitely get you some rest (love the RICET therapy, haha!) and then try again, but maybe not so hard. Good luck with your training!!
