f-stop Friday - Eskimo Smile

This young Athabascan Indian is a college student. She is wearing the traditional sealskin clothing of her ancestory. Traditional, that is, except for one modern convenience... a zipper!

I took this photo in Alaska in 2007. Today I decided to try it with a square crop, sepia tone and vignette. It makes me smile. Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

She's a beautiful young woman, and the fur framing her face looks like a "halo". Love the sepia tones!

What a great picture. Has the girl ever seen the picture? Jan

Thank you all for your nice comments!

Jan, I doubt she's ever seen it unless, knowing that tourists were regularly taking her picture, she searched and found it on Flickr.

The Riverboat Discovery, which runs along the Chena and Tanana Rivers near Fairbanks took us to the Chena Indian Village where this picture was taken. The Indian Village is more or less an outdoor museum where you can study the old Athabascan culture. It is mostly staffed by local college students of Athabascan heritage.

David - what a wonderful eye you have for framing pictures! This photo is so comment worthy. I have visited your flickr site and you have some fabulous pictures there! My favorites are the ones of you and Mindy!

Thanks for the info. I was kind of thinking the picture would look funny if it was stretched but I've noticed some people with maybe 3 pictures across. Oh, well, I'll wait for Katie & wish for the best. Have a good weekend. Jan

David,
OK ~ are you AOK?
Came here hoping for something new and see you haven't posted lately.
Don't leave you friends hanging.. it's OK if you just show us more wonderful pictures - that would always be a treat!
Happy Weekend!

This photo is of my Niece's daughter, Nicole Noel. She is an Athabascan Indian girl. We now tease her that she is an Eskimo. Big difference up in Alaska. LOL

Thank you Madeleine!

Hey, that's me. Thanks for sharing.

That's so cool, Nicole! I was contacted by Page on Flickr about the color version of the photo. She said she worked for an advertising agency that was working on a website for Doyon Ltd and she thought you were one of their shareholders. She asked for permission to use the photo, which I granted, but never heard more from her.
